About the Author
Mr. Tabuchi was born and raised in Japan, and completed his college in Japan. During his college study, Mr. Tabuchi read the Club of Rome Report, Limit of Growth and Small is Beautiful, by Shumaker to realize the world is changing rapidly with global economic growth. Mr. Tabuchi wrote his university graduation thesis on the supply and demand curve of global natural resources. With the uncertainty of the global resources and the economy, he moved to the US to further study the future of the world. He completed his graduate work at Florida State University.
Upon graduation from FSU, he joined the staff of the Florida Governor’s Office to work on the economic development of Florida and with Asian economy, especially Japan. When Governor Askew became the US Trade Representative (USTR) at the Carter Administration in 1980, Mr. Tabuchi was asked to assist the Japan Mission of the USTR on loan to coordinate the private schedule of Ambassador Askew.
Throughout his experience with the USTR office, he spearheaded the development of public transportation (highspeed rail/MAGLEV) system in the US to help make the US more competitive with other counties and global cities. Mr. Tabuchi introduced the TOD – transportation-oriented development with his project in Florida.
After 33 years in the US, Mr. Tabuchi returned to Japan to join Toyo University as a professor of the PPP Graduate School.
Mr. Tabuchi also served at the United Nations PPP Promotion Office and became the Chair of the UN PPP Working party in 2018 until 2022 to promote PPP activites for developing nations.
Currently, he is a Professor Emeritus at Toyo University and Chapter Chair Asia/Pacific of WAPPP.
Mr. Tabuchi is also an advisor to several companies in Japan and the US.
Opinions of Global Elites
In writing his book, Mr. Tabuchi has contacted and interviewed friends around the world to obtain the global views of Japan, including the views of the former Prime Minister of Malaysia. He used such views to further express his views of the weakness and stagnation of Japan. The preparation and translation of the book in English is underway.
Japan’s Stagnation for 33 Years
Growth of the economy with the industrial policy made Japan the second largest economy. With the success of the economy created by “Japanism”, Japan relied on its success and did not improve its economic system. This caused the stagnation of the economy for over 30 years.
Mr. Tabuchi points out the reasons of the stagnation: national debt, aging population, and Japanism. He indicates the ways in which Japan can regain its economic prosperity with his ideas and his views. Below is the list of these items:
